The seven acre campus of St. John’s includes three gardens as well as a small playground and lots of room to walk and play. The gardens are tended by the Garden Party–a group of people who enjoy working together with each other and God to create places of beauty.
The Jane Kunsch Memorial Garden, located just outside of the sanctuary, contains a variety of perennial plantings as well as some annuals for seasonal color. The location of the Steel Cross, also in memory of Jane Kunsch, serves as a tribute to our town’s history of steel production.
Our Columbarium Garden, located behind the sanctuary, provides a place of peace and hope for now and forever. Again, perennials provide year-round beauty that complements the fieldstone walls and flowing fountain of the garden.
The third garden surrounds the Christian Education/Office wing of our building which includes a hallway of stained glass windows from the original St. John’s on Church Street in Phoenixville.
The Garden Party schedules work sessions as needed. Some of our gardeners like to work alone and take care of assigned plots on their own schedule. A couple of times a year the Garden Party organizes field trips to local gardens such as Longwood in Kennett Square and Chanticleer in Wayne. If you are interested in joining the party, please contact our Parish Administrator at [email protected] or (610) 933-3947, ext. 2.
